The Vegetarian Specials at Maplai

Here’s news for those of you who thought Maplai only served authentic non-vegetarian South Indian delicacies: their menu has a huge variety of authentic vegetarian food that includes gravies and varieties that would bring back fond memories or create new ones. Maplai’s menu carries a range of vegetarian starters.
By now famous, the Vazhapoo Kola Urundai, is an exclusive. Each Urundai is nimbly tied together with banana fibres to hold the crumbling mass of pure banana flower mince together, blended with secret ingredients and deep fried to a pure, delicious dish. Of course, Crispy Guntur Corn is a hot favourite, literally. Soft-hearted corn kernels are coated with crispness and tossed in Maplai’s magic milagai podi for a slight pungency.
The Manavadu Bendakai which is thin slices of okra batter fried, will be a favorite even if you don’t like okra. You also have the Chepankizhangu Roast, is slices of colocassia roots, deep fried and tossed in spicy podi. This goes beautifully well with rasam and sadham. The star of the vegetarian section is the Paneer Kurumulak Fry. Cubes of paneer tossed in a fiery pepper masala. This tastes very close to non veg.Maplai’sPaneer Ka Thakali are soft fingers of taste. They have the tartness of tomato, seasoning of curry leaves and a dash of asafoetida.  Average Cost for 2: Rs 1000+Taxes, Maplai, Nungambakkum. Phone: 28250000, Maplai, Neelankarai.
