About 30 shops were demolished at Asiad Colony, 100 Feet Road Thirumangalam to make way for road-widening project of the State Highways Department. The stretch of shops has been in existence for the past 20 years.
Even the compound wall surrounding the Asiad Colony Park has been demolished. Highways Department officials said the spot will be used for constructing storm water drainage and would be widening for smooth vehicular movement. The residents of Asiad Colony would welcome the provision of parking facility at the space below the flyover premises.
