Fruitful Efforts By School Students

The National Green Corps (NGC) Department of Environment, Government of Tamil Nadu, Chennai District and Indo-International Initiative for Billions of Fruit Trees (IIIBFT) jointly organised a one day workshop to initiate to grow One billion Fruit bearing

Trees in selected 50 schools in Chennai District on a first phase to reach its goal at Chennai Girls Higher Secondary School at Nungambakkam. Dr.H.Malleshappa IFS.Director,Dept. of Environment inaugurated the workshop in the presence of Dr.Alagu Perumal Ramasamy ,Director,IIIBFT and Mr.G.Thangaraj, District Coordinator,NGC. Dr.H.Malleshappa, appreciated this noble initiative which could be spread thro' NGC schools all over the state over a period of time.

He also insisted the schools not to leave the saplings by simply growing in plastic carry bags in school campus but also to monitor the saplings where it is being planted. A demo on saplings growth is being demonstrated by students at the end of the session. About 150 students and teachers from various schools participated in the event.
