The stretch of East Main Road between School Road and North Main Road in Anna Nagar West Extension is lying in a battered conduction. The East Main Road stretch particularly near Vanavil Apartments complex has been severely damaged due to the underground metro water pipeline project. Navigating the dug up parts has become a way of life for many residents of the area.
The road users are finding it extremely difficult to negotiate the dug up stretch. There are several ditches and pits on the road surface which is posing a safety hazard. Walking on the road during night is a risk as the trenches are not
covered up properly.
The area residents stated that better coordination between the various Government agencies will prevent roads from getting repeatedly dup up. Chennai Metro water Supply and Sewage Board officials stated that once any metro water work gets completed, the civic authorities are informed to relay and blacktop the road surface. East Main Road Residents while welcoming the initiative to provide improved metro water supply stated that the damaged road surface needs blacktopping at the earliest.
