Otteri Nullah is getting cleaned and desilted .The
construction work for a new high raised compound wall is in progress along the
Otteri Nullah stretch near Labour Officers Quarters, P-Block, 6thAvenue, Anna
Nagar. During the past few days an earthmover was engaged to remove waste
materials and weeds from the waterway so that there could free flow of water.
The
area residents now heave a sigh of relief as high raised flood protection wall
is getting built apart from cleaning the polluted waterway.
Otteri Nullah is
getting improved and strengthened under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban
Renewal Mission. The residents of Labour quarters stated that the open canal
needs to be cleaned regularly and also covered so as to prevent health hazard
and environmental pollution.
The project
is expected to be completed soon. In 2010, it was announced that Hydrological
digital instruments would be installed along the Otteri Nullah to monitor
rainfall. In 2011, the Public Works Department announced that it had started
work on desilting the water body.
