World Book Day and Copyright Day (also known as International Day of
the Book or World Book Days) is a yearly event observed on 23 April, organized
by UNESCO to promote reading, publishing and copyright. World Book Day was
celebrated for the first time on 23 April 1995. In 1995, UNESCO decided that
the World Book and Copyright Day would be celebrated on 23rd April,
the day which marks the birth and death of William Shakespeare.
World Book Day
is a celebration! It’s a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most
importantly) it’s a celebration of reading. In fact, it’s the biggest
celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of
books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.
