Waterway At Thirumangalam Gets Cleaned


Chennai Corporation has started a city’s waterways cleanup campaign. Water hyacinth, floating garbage’s and weeds were cleared and removed from the waterway below the Thirumangalam Bridge, Anna Nagar mainly to combat mosquito menace. 

Floating river cleaning machines is used to remove the weeds and other wild vegetation near the Thirumangalam Bridge for the past one week. 

The removal of weeds will continue for few more days. Chennai Corporation has commenced work for removing water hyacinth and weeds from all the city’s waterways including those maintained by the Public Works Department. Apart from cleaning the Adyar River, Cooum River and Buckingham Canal, the civic authorities is also cleaning and de-weeding other smaller canals in the city. 

Residential localities of Arumbakkam, Thirumangalam and Padikuppam which are situated along the canal will soon get some respite from the mosquito menace as the canals are being cleaned up.
