13th Main Road Needs Obstacle Free Footpaths

Footpaths in the city pose an everyday challenge to pedestrians, what with garbage and debris dumped on it, apart from encroachment. Sometimes footpaths seem like obstacle courses.

Pedestrians are required to duck under branches, swerve around cars and dodge outdoor diners.

For people with vision and mobility disabilities these obstacles make using footpaths more difficult. However, the travails of pedestrians along 13th Main Road stretch from Shanthi Colony to Second Avenue have only doubled. The corner of 13th Main Road, Anna Nagar is an eyesore.

The pedestrian footpath along 13th Main road is used at many places as a dumping yard and is blocking free pedestrian movement. It is reported that many street corners and vacant plots in and around Anna Nagar are being turned into makeshift dump yards or garbage collection points. Moreover, dumping of debris and construction material on the road has added to the agony of the already hassled pedestrians and residents.
