Chintamani Has A Huge Green Cover

The roads in  Chintamani, Anna Nagar  is covered  with a long line of huge green road side trees on both directions giving the area a green look and a shady look. In order to regulate felling of trees on public land and encourage and motivate people to plant trees on private land, it is necessary to constitute a Tree Authority for the Corporation areas.

As the roads are  getting widened, the axe falling heavily on several trees along the road side margins. Over the past fortnight, more than a dozen trees were uprooted near Anna Arch to  facilitate the flyover project leaving many wondering the motive behind axing trees not close to the road at all. Road widening was imperative to ease congestion and reduce accidents on this dense stretch. However, planting saplings and nurturing them can be taken into consideration.

More recently, over the past weekend, the axe has come down on nearly a dozen trees. Environmentalists complain that the road-widening of not only at Third Avenue Road, but also many other arterial roads in the city and its suburbs has taken away a chunk of the green cover.
