Chennai Corporation Stated Re-laying Damaged Roads

The Chennai Corporation has started re-laying roads and use of plastic-mixed bitumen. The roads in Anna Nagar, Mogappair and Villivakkam which got damaged during the monsoon season will soon become smooth once again. The road re-laying work was  launched by Mayor Saidai S.Duraisamy. 

The Mayor  said that all roads in the city will have plastic content in future. A total of 1,616 roads to be re-laid in 2011-2012 in the city would have 10 per cent plastic content in addition to bitumen.

Re-laying of 118 bus route roads, totalling 78 km, would be taken up at a cost of Rs.50.02 crore. The initiative to re-lay roads with plastics in the city follows a gazette notification by the Ministry of Environment and Forests. The Chennai Corporation and the Highways Department have already began patch work on rain-battered roads in the city. Roads such as 100 Feet Road  and MTH  

 Road have many uneven stretches.Many roads in the city have been damaged on account of the recent rains. The damaged roads include Ennore High road, Perambur High Road, Stephenson Road, Konnur High Road, Kolathur Main Road, Nelson Manickam Road, , New Avadi Road, Anna Nagar Third Avenue etc.
