It is reported that the level of Respirable Suspended Particulate Matter (RSPM) at the traffic intersection on Poonamallee High Road near Kilpauk Medical College Hospital during the 24-hour period was 122 micrograms/cubic meter.
The permissible limit is 100 micrograms/cubic meter. The level was checked by Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (Poonamallee High Road, Arumbakkam). Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB), established in 1982,had celebrated its silver jubilee.
To assist in the Analytical and Scientific side, the Board has established three Advanced Environmental Laboratories, ten District Environmental Laboratories and one Mobile Environmental Laboratories.
TNPCB investigates, collects and disseminates data relating to water, air and land pollution, lays down standards for sewage/trade effluent and emissions.
The Board has classified the industries as per their pollution load for effective monitoring
