Advertisement Hoardings Encroach Upon Pavements

Advertisement hoardings posts in the middle of the pedestrian footpath along Poonamallee High Road is an inconvenience. The photo shows one such spot near D.G. Vaishnav College, Arumbakkam.

The pedestrian pathways on Poonamallee High Road, which is  one of the busiest stretches of the city were completely taken over by hawkers and advertisement hoardings.

Most of the city's pathways are unusable owing to  encroachments. Walking on a majority of the city's footpaths is  an obstacle for pedestrians. Hawkers, banners and parked vehicles along pavements are  a major concern. The police and Chennai Corporation are responsible for removing all kinds of encroachment on pavements. Added to this, the Highways Department is formulating guidelines for creating model footpaths in the city.
