The photograph shows the Chennai Metro Rail work in progress for the Thirumangalam Railway station. The underground Metro station slated to come up on Anna Nagar Second Avenue Road has begun to take shape.
Preliminary work has commenced recently. The Chennai Metro Rail Underground tunneling is expected to begin by February, 2013.The construction of the two Metro Rail corridors was inaugurated in June 2009.
The first corridor will run between Washermenpet and the Airport through Mount Road. The second corridor is between Chennai Central and St. Thomas Mount and it would predominantly pass through Poonamallee High Road and Jawaharlal Nehru road. In Corridor 2, Underground Stations will come at Nehru Park, Kilpauk Medical College, Shenoy Nagar, Anna Nagar East, Anna Nagar Tower and Tirumangalam. Elevated Stations will be constructed at Koyambedu, Arumbakkam, Vadapalani, Ashok Nagar-KK Nagar and St. Thomas Mount.
The metro corridors would provide connection with various other transport systems in the city such as the Chennai suburban railway network, Chennai MRTS, Chennai MTC bus terminus etc.
