Speed Breakers Along Anna Nagar Avenues

Many speed breakers have been erected at busy intersections in Anna Nagar Avenue roads. Speed breakers are mostly put up at accident prone zones with an aim to control the speed of the vehicles. They are also erected at roads were schools, colleges hospitals and office complex are situated.

The main idea to speed breakers is for reducing the vehicle speed to allow pedestrians to cross the road. The Anna Nagar Traffic Police advise the motorists to slow down while approaching speed breakers. A speed breaker is mainly a speed-reducing feature on roads aimed to slow traffic flow. Speed breakers are very effective in keeping vehicle speed down.

Poorly designed speed bumps  can be hard to negotiate in vehicles with low ground clearance. They can also pose serious hazards to motorcyclists and bicyclists if not easily noticed. According to IRC standards, the central height of a road hump must not exceed 10 centimetres, the shape must be parabolic and the width must be at least 3.5 metres.

It must also be painted in a 'V' shape and illuminated by solar cat's eyes to make them visible. For a speed-breaker to be legal, the city's local police must permit its construction. Motorists suggested that the authorities should make sure that the height and breath of the speed breaker should be uniform on all roads and painted in bright colours so that it is visible to motorists at night.
