The Sprawling Ambattur And Korathur Lakes

Today the city residents are interested in saving the depleting lakes and protecting the environment.

The lakes are fast depleting as encroachment and dumping of garbages and wast materials goes mostly unchecked in the lake bund areas.

Once drinking water sources, now these lakes have become an eyesore. Neglect and lack of better protection  sums up the pitiable condition of the Ambattur and Korathur lakes. Even the Madambakkam, Perungudi, Adambakkam, Chetpet, Pallavaram, Porur and Puzhuthivakkam lakes are crying for attention and a face lift. The lakes which could serve as a wonderful recourse for recharging ground water are lying in a bad and dirty state.

Adding to the misery is letting out sewage water into the lake water. Several potions of the lakes are misused as dumping yard for wastes and defecation.

According to the city residents, preventing and putting a stop of dumping waste materials, protecting and cleaning the lake waters are the foremost priorities.

Strengthen of lake bunds and installation of brighter illumination  around  the lake surroundings is equally important. Need for saving, caring and protecting the lakes is the need of the hour.
