The inauguration of Flipper Fest ‘2011 –“A Marine Biodiversity Conservation Awareness Mela” was held at Kumararani Meena Muthiah College, Gandhi Nagar, Adyar, Chennai-20.
The inaugural address was by Inspector General S P Sharma , Commander Indian Coast Guard , Region East.
All the competitions lay emphasis on conserving ecosystem, specially low carbon emission initiatives, coral bleaching, ocean pollution, endangered marine species and the problems of marine litter and other phenomena which are confronting the oceans now days
. Competitions in painting, Quiz, Model Making, Essay, Eco Drama and Paper Presentations was held for school children and events such as Street play, Photography, Paper Presentations and Poster Presentations was held for college students.
More than 800 students form 41 schools and 6 colleges register and actively participated in various competitions. Tree Foundation is a Registered Charitable Trust, primarily engaged in Environment Education, Sea Turtle Conservation, Marine mammal study and Community Development and spreading the Awareness
of Nature Conservation to schools, colleges and general public.This event was organized by Tree Foundation, Roots & Shoots, India and The Indian Coast Guard and supported by Kumararani Meena Muthiah College
