Pedestrians Difficulties At Anna Nagar

Road safety has increasingly become an important concern in Chennai. Pedestrians find it very difficult to cross the Avenue roads in Anna Nagar, due to the  fast-moving vehicular traffic. Pedestrians running across the road is a  regular feature. Even though there are  zebra crossing or signal, people are forced to dart across the road when there is no traffic policeman.

Since vehicles routinely violate the signal, people are forced to run across the road. A senior traffic police official said that instructions are in place to give top priority to pedestrians and patients.

The Chennai Suburban Traffic Police along with the Highways Department and local bodies has been plugging gaps on the median wherever possible to prevent jaywalking and criss-crossing of vehicles across the road. But this  has not a good sign for pedestrians.
