Akshaya Tritiya Day!

Today, 6th May 2011 is Akshaya Tritiya , an auspicious day for a new beginning. Jewellery showrooms across the city are offering great offers and special gifts to the customers.

This year Akshaya Tritiya is even more auspicious as it falls on Friday. Akshaya Tritiya is one of the most auspicious days for Hindus. It is celebrated on the third day of bright half of Vaishakha Maas (Vaishakha Shukla Tritiya or Thadiya). 

As per the Hindu traditions and culture, this festival is considered as the most significant day to perform sacred deeds.In Sanskrit, the meaning of Akshaya is never diminishing. As the meaning says, on the day of Akshaya Tritiya people never feel the dearth of happiness or bliss. 

Akshaya Tritiya falls on the third day of the bright half of Vaishakh month (April-May), when the Sun and Moon are in exaltation; they are simultaneously at their peak of brightness, which happens only once every year. The word Akshaya means that which never diminishes - hence beginnings made or valuables bought on this day are considered certain to bring luck and success. Akshaya 

Tritiya marks the beginning of the Treta Yug. The birthday of Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Vishnu falls on this day. This is one of the most auspicious days according to the Hindu calendar. So this day is considered auspicious for starting new ventures and making new purchases.
