Everyday there is a long pile up of slow moving vehicles along Mount Poonamallee high road at Butt Road in St. Thomas Mount. The narrow bend at Butt Road causes traffic snarls during peak hours. The road is too narrow and traffic jam is a daily ordeal here, particularly during morning and evening hours.
Motorists use Butt Road junction to reach DLF, Ramapuram, Porur, SRMC, and Kundrathur from Tambaram and Guindy exiting the Kathipara flyover. The road is too narrow and traffic jam is a daily ordeal here, particularly during morning and evening hours. The one-way Butt Road stretch from Kathipara flyover has now become highly accident prone. Even crossing the road during peak hours is a big risk for pedestrians. The widening of Butt Road needs important attention. The traffic has increased so much, but the size still remains the same and Butt Road stretch is in dire need to be widened. Highways Department officials stated that plans are on to widen Butt Road to ensure smooth traffic movement.
