Indian Community Welfare Organisation together with Greater Chennai Corporation initiated “Shelter for Homeless” in Thattankulam Chennai Zone 6 is aimed to provide shelter for destitute, elderly, orphan women, homeless and people with disability. On 18th June 2017, Indian Community Welfare Organisation had a wonderful Fathers Day celebration with the residents of the shelter for homeless people. Mr.A.J.Hariharan, Secretary, ICWO welcomed the gathering and shared about the purpose of the program. This program aims to honour our father like persons who have great contribution and impact in many peoples life. He also welcomed the volunteers to celebrate their birthdays, Anniversaries with the elderly people in the shelter. This will helps to improve the dignity of life of the residents.
He also thanked the officials of Greater Chennai Corporation for the support to administrate the shelter.This shelter functions 24 hours and ensures safe space, nutritious food, clean drinking water, emotional support, regular medical checkup with physical fitness. This project is supported by Greater Chennai Corporation and ICWO is implementing agency to ensure a safe space and life with dignity for homeless people in Chennai. He thanked the Lions Club of Golden Friends for their support by providing 40 Chairs, Dhothis, Sarees and food for the residents of the shelter. Members from Lions Club of Golden Friends are Lion M.Selvakumar, Founder, Lion A.Sathees Kumar, Trust Chairman, Lion S. Venkatesh, President, Lion R.Sriram, President and Lion A.Prabhu and the team of ICWO staffs are Mr.K.Palani, Project Co-ordinator, Ms.M.Sarawathi, Care Taker, Mr.V.Vijaya Kumar, M & E Officer, Ms.J.Brindha, Counsellor and Ms.P.Philominal, M & E Officer. Ms.Aradhana Sharon, IVth Std, ‘A’ Sec, Chennai Public School, Anna Nagar delivered the excellent Special Address and appreciated by the participants and residents in the shelter. Ms.Devika Thilak, Deputy Director, ICWO rendered vote of thanks. In her address she thanked the guests participated in the fathers day program for honoring the elderly people and cake cutting function. She also shared, At present there are 52 residents in the shelter and upgrading the facilities to increase the residents.
