Milaap, India’s largest crowd funding platform is working with doctors across India to help them crowd fund for their patients. This is to ensure patients, irrespective of their monetary background can access necessary and quality medical facilities and that these are not limited to a certain economic group. The crowd funding platform has, therefore established partnerships with hospitals, especially in Chennai, the medical hub in India to make the process of setting up fundraisers customised to meet urgent needs.Medical fundraisers constitute a majority of fundraisers set up on Milaap. On 23rd May 2017, Dr. Snehalatha from Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre stepped in and introduced them to online crowd funding on Milaap. She set up a campaign for Vivash, and helped the family raise the funds needed.
The campaign successfully raised the target amount with the support of people. On this note, Dr. Revathi Raj from Apollo Speciality Hospital said, “Great strides have been made in the field of medicine to cure genetic diseases such as thalassaemia major and primary immune deficiency. Public hospitals cannot provide niche area services to children with rare diseases as resources required would be enormous. Dr. Priya Ramachandran, Kanchi Kamakoti CHILDS Trust Hospital, who was also part of the conference said, “ Treating a child is different because doctors have to care for both the child and his parents. When they are struggling to pay their bills it is important for doctors to lend a helping hand by approaching crowd funding platforms like Milaap. Anoj Viswanathan, co-founder of the Bangalore-based crowd funding platform said, “Doctors have been setting up fundraisers for patients in need within their capacity, for quite some time now.
A tie-up ensures we can speed the process up for them, and can help them reach out to more people and ensure better medical access to a larger section of the society. If anyone has a requirement of funds for personal and social causes, they can easily set up campaigns by visiting https://milaap.org/ and click on the “Start a Fundraiser” button to create a fundraising appeal.
