Jeevodaya is a Charitable and Non-profit organization with the noble aim of rendering continuing service to Poor and Abandoned Cancer Patients. Irrespective of their social status, Jeevodaya offers its services to one and all totally FREE OF COST.There are 50 beds for in-patients with professional medical service provided by doctors and nurses trained in Palliative Care and round the clock nursing services. Jeevodaya survives purely on donations from well-wishers.The 25th anniversary celebrations of Jeevodaya Hospice for Cancer Patients began with a prayer and invocation song Have you had a kindness shown,pass it on, by Sudha Lakshmi Rao.Sr. Lalitha Teresa – Founder member and Secy of Jeevodaya gave the welcome address.Rev. Sr. Liberata FCC Founder Chairman of Jeevodaya spoke of Jeevodaya's mission to help one and all regardless of religion and economic state.Chief Guest, His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. Pauly Kannookaadan,Bp of Irinjalakuda and Bp in Charge of Syro Malabar Catholics of Chennai, blessed the 25th year celebrations and applauded Jeevodaya's selfless service for cancer patients.Rev.Fr.Dr. Jose Irimpen, coordinator of Syro Malabar Catholics of Chennai said that Jeevodaya was a place of meditation and love. Dr.Shanta V, Chairman, Cancer Institute, Adyar spoke of the team effort that started Jeevodaya and that it was one of the first palliative care centres in India.
Mrs. Neerja Malik, a cancer conquorer ,social worker and a great well wisher of Jeevodaya said that Jeevodaya was a haven for not only the inmates but for visitors as well. Dr. Manjula Krishnaswamy honored Dr. Nanjuda Rao Founder member of Jeevodaya who was unable to be there and also honored Late Dr. Snehalatha, Founder member.An idea in Royapettah hospital where she and Dr.Sneha saw the suffering of end stage cancer patients lead to Jeevodaya with the help of Dr.Udaya Mahadevan and the FCC Sisters. Sr. Filby FCC, Vicar General of Franciscan Clarist Congregation and Rev. Sr. Dhanya Bastin FCC Sister Provincial of Franciscan Clarist Congregation, Alvernia Province and Chairman of Jeevodaya also spoke on the occasion. Sri.Gopinath Muthukad a renowned magician from Kerala with a distinctive motto “Magic with a mission” and not only propagates the art of magic but also spreads moral values, in his diverse roles as magician, escapologist, lif e coach, and motivational speaker presented a magic show.
As the high light of Jeevodaya's 25th anniversary celebrations,the Documentary “Silver Footprints” put together by Priya V and team with the Jeevodaya Anthem – composed by music composer Dharan, lyrics by Dr. Udaya Mahadevan, Sung by Krithi Rao and Naren was screened.It was a beautiful and moving presentation of Jeevoday's humble beginnings and their growth to being a totally free premium palliative care centre which offers individualised care to each of it's patients."If I can stop one Heart from breaking I shall not live in vain. If I can ease one Life in the aching I shall not live in vain". A truly memorable evening.
