The Chennai District National Green Corps (NGC), The Department of Environment organised Annual Environmental Awareness Competitions and Enviro Expo 2014 at Monahan Girls HS School.Essay, Oratorical, Painting Competitions were held to encourage students on title like Biodiversity, Wild animals and conservation. Around 325 NGC students from 75 schools participated. Dr.M.Jayanthi IFS Additional Director of Environment inaugurated the Enviro Expo in the presence of Mrs.Joice Celina DEO of Chennai Central and appreciated the NGC / Eco club students' creatures and their performances.
Models on Rain Water Harvest, Wind Energy, Pollution free Factory, A green village , Waste management, Water purification etc were part of the expo. Waste management and Rainwater Harvest by Chennai middle School,Egmore and St.Mary's mat school, Perambur won the first prizes in different categories respectively. Dr.M.Jayanthi lauded the students’ efforts in creating models with innovative ideas and gave away the prizes. HM Mrs. Inba kumari, Dist.Coordinator G.Thangaraj, State coordinator L.Durai and resource persons from various organisations took part.
