Research in cardiology is important to enable youngsters in surgery and allied areas to flourish with better guidance, said chairman and chief executive officer of Frontier Lifeline Hospital, K M Cherian during the thanks giving ceremony commemorating 20th anniversary of Cardiac Care Centre (CCC) of Sri Ramachandra University (SRU).He was also conferred as 'Visiting Professorship' on the occasion.
Cherian said that Southern Railway Hospital (SRH) Perambur was instrumental in carrying out preliminary research in the field of cardiology and first open heart surgery was performed in September 1976.With the same objective, Madras Medical Mission in 1995, Pondy Institute of Medical Sciences in 2001 and Frontier Lifeline Hospital in 2004 were established.
The preventive cardiology and cardio rehabilitation would be taken forward by CCC with best of alternative medicine, he said. Senior paediatric cardiologist, Jebaraj said that with the help of State government and extra funding from various organisations, SRU Medical Institution is taking care of heart patients from all walks of the life.
