The Chennai Skating Pair Aswin Abraham and Pranamya Rao are back from Haining City, China with Bronze medals at the 16th Asian Roller Skating Championship 2014. They won the medal in Couple Dance. In the last Asian Championship held at Hefei City, China in October 2012 they won two silver medals each in Pair Skating and Couple Dance in the Artistic Skating category. Their medals in 2012 were the first International medal in Roller Skating from Tamil Nadu. Asian Roller Skating Championship is conducted every alternate year and 15 countries in the Asian region participate in the event.
This year 605 skaters participated in various disciplines. Indian Artistic skating team performed very well. This year competition was very tough with Japan and Iran participating with improved skills. Aswin is a student of Std. XII at SBOA CBSC School and Pranamya is a student of Std. XI at Bhavan's Rajaji Vidyashram. They are part of the Champions Development Scheme of The Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu. They have won many medals and Individual championships at the national, state and district level Skating meets.
They have been training for artistic skating under Mr Aaron Saldanha , a former international skater and an engineer by profession. Choreographic part of their performance is taken care of by Mr.Deepak Muthukrishnan and Mr. Rubalingam. -By ELWYN
