A grand function was held on 27th September 2013 at Taj Club House, Chennai to distribute Eco Bag Designer Awards-2013 to school students. His Excellency, Mr.Patrick Suckling, Australian High Commissioner to India and Mr.David Holly, Australian Council-General to South India were the special guests for the function and gave away the awards to the children.
Dr.Supraja Dharini, Founder and Chairperson of Tree Foundation in her address stated that the Eco Bag Designer of the Year Contest had received over 1345 bags with participation from 51 schools across the city. Every bag was unique. Everyone was a winner. The best bags which stood out was selected and awarded prizes.
The contest was organised to promote awareness on the importance of protecting the oceans, environment and avoiding the use of plastic bags.
