K Ramadoss, Tree Lover &Gen Secretary of Greater Chennai Dist Exnora (North) stated that it's a welcome gesture by the Corporation for promptly removing dead road side trees to prevent accidents.
The civic body's proposal to prune the protruded branches of roadside trees will no doubt facilitate more illumination of streets and it would also prevent hindrance for free movement of vehicular traffic.
K.Ramadoss further stated that the Corporation of Chennai should strengthen its parks department with adequate field staff and park overseers besides unit wise provision of hydraulic ladders and other appliances. He also said that the civic body should insist the police to register cases of un-authorised felling of trees in public places whenever brought to their notice and issue first information report (FIR) and avoid issuance of community service report (CSR).
The Joint Commissioner Education and Parks should invite members/office bearers and conduct periodical meeting to interact with local residential welfare associations as well as recognized NGOs like EXNORA INTERNATIONAL and NIZHAL which are more concerned with greenery and environmental issues of the city. K Ramadoss also highlighted the Madras High Court full bench ruling on 17-06- 2007, which directed the TN government to appoint a TREE - AUTHORITY besides compensating with 50 new plantation of trees for each tree felled by agencies or public remains without any action as of now.
