Training Programme On Roof Gardening

A roof garden is any garden on the roof of a building. Besides the decorative benefit, roof plantings may provide food, temperature control, hydrological benefits, architectural enhancement and recreational opportunities.

The practice of cultivating food on the rooftop of buildings is sometimes referred to as rooftop farming.

In urban and sub-urban areas the growing of fruits and vegetables is much restricted due to migration of peoples and expansion of residential areas.  Roof gardening is a recent concept primarily intended for continuous supply of fresh fruits, vegetables through the year for family use.

Apart from this, medicinal plants grown in roof garden can cure certain human diseases.  Family members residing in urban and rural areas can easily establish and maintain the roof garden. A one day training programme on “Roof gardening” will be conducted by the TNAU Information and Training Centre on 10.06.2013 (Monday) between 9.30 am to 4.30 pm.

The programme will be useful to house wives, farmers, entrepreneurs, youths, SHG, NGO’s and students, etc. Training certificates, lunch will be issued to all participants.
