Astronomy Awareness Camp

A solar astronomy awareness camp was recently organized by Members of Tamil Nadu Astronomical Society, a Non-profit organisation for promotion of Astronomy. V. Vijayakumar (President) told that the students were shown sun via special solar telescopes and they were provided with special solar goggles imported from United States.

The event was covered as a two part with one part for physical observation via PST and white light filtered Schmidt-Cass grain telescopes and other part for simultaneous interactive sections with astrophysicists and solar astronomers. During the event members gave solar goggles to all the students who attended the event and they were asked questions about stellar evolution and were appraised on solar activity. The event was an eye opener for students. The society has plans to do more such interactive solar observational events for students.

There were also interactive sections by Prof Dr. Ramesh Kumar and by Mr. Vijayakumar on practical observational astronomy. About 1000 persons participated in the awareness camp. For more details on the activities and future programmes contact President D.VijayaKumar on 9382870662.
