A Life Threatening And Dangerous Spot

The intersection of Jawaharlal Nehru Road, School Road and 6th Avenue, Anna Nagar, close to Thirumangalam Police Station, has continuous movement of vehicles. Fast moving vehicles make the unmanned junction a precarious bottle neck. It is a highly dangerous spot for pedestrians to cross. There are no signals and no traffic policeman to control the vehicle movement and help pedestrians, especially senior citizens, ladies and children to cross the road.

It is also reported that despite umpteen complaints from the general public and Anna Nagar residents to the Traffic Police, Metro Rail and Highways Department officials, no effective action has been taken to regulate traffic and to protect the lives of pedestrians. Mr.M.S.Varadarajan, Secretary of Anna Nagar Senior Citizens Welfare Association and resident of Park Road told that accidents will not happen with advance caution.

A fraction of a second is sufficient to end a life which the Apex Court values very heavily. Today, Chennai City Police Department is doing lot of safety awareness programmes and functions to be friendlier with the public. Posting a traffic constable will not only solve the traffic chaos but would create a good impression for the Traffic Police Department.
