Tamil Nadu Horticulture Department organised "Urban Vegetable Cultivation" programme recently at Bethel Matriculation and Higher Secondary School, Ayanavaram. The chief guest Mr. J C D Prabhakar MLA Villivakkam Constituency inaugurated the function and released a Hand Book published by Horticulture Department with detailed technical information to raise vegetables and flowers at home.The Deputy Director Horticulture Madhavaram
Mrs Mary Sujatha, in her welcome address outlined the importance of home and roof gardening in each one of the households to grow vegetables and greens. Mr K Ramadoss President North Chennai Dist Exnora in his special address went back to his school days experience that a period was allotted in schools in those days to teach gardening with cultivation of vegetables and flowers etc and requested the children to grow useful plants with the help of their parents at homes.
Mr J C D Prabhakar MLA recalled the " Tamil Nadu Vision 2023" plan introduced by Honourable Chief Minister Jayalalithaa which will achieve in all respects to become No 1 state in the nation. He also commended the officials of the government department and the agricultural university teachers who participated the programme.
Dr Shanthi Balasubramaniam Professor and Head Urban Horticulture Agriculture University Anna Nagar conducted a demonstration. Dr K A Shanmugasundaram Asst Professor of the university took classes on how to plan home gardening. Mr R Aravindan also took classes in raising home gardening in detail. Mr. K Pandian Horticulture Officer proposed a vote of thanks.
