Awaiting Positive Signs For Restarting Train Service

The Padi and Anna Nagar Railway station wears a neglected look. The Anna Nagar area residents are eagerly waiting for the Southern Railway authorities to restart the train service between Anna Nagar and Beach via Padi, Villivakkam and Perambur. Padi railway station which is located at the junction of 100-feet Inner Ring Road and MTH Road is today surrounded by wild bushes and has become a spot for poisonous reptiles.

Though the Padi flyover was completed in 2009, train services were not restored. Even the Anna Nagar railway station has a ugly and dirty look. Between 2003 and 2007, five suburban trains were being run from Anna Nagar to Chennai Beach.

At present the railway line, is only used by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) at Perambur for moving newly built coaches from shell to furnishing division of the factory.

According to official sources, Southern Railways has plans to resume services in this section. Anna Nagar residents are hoping that the train service will start as soon as possible.
