Southern Railway had recently
officially announced to revive the discontinued local electric train service
from Anna Nagar Railway Station to Beach. It is a well known fact that the
earlier operated train service was stopped to facilitate the construction work
of the long pending Padi grade separator to reduce traffic chaos.
Today Anna
Nagar roads are getting narrower and congested as Chennai Metro Rail
Underground stations construction work is fast progressing. Moreover there is a
good possibility of Anna Nagar Railway station getting linked to the nearest
metro station to -facilitate intermodal connectivity.
Anna Nagar Railway
Station located along Thirumangalam Road that connects Anna Nagar West and
Villivakkam is surrounded by many residential localities, educational
institutions, hospitals and commercial establishments. At present the 3
kilometer line is used by ICF to move new train coaches from Shell unit to
Furnishing Division. Railway sources stated that from 2003 to 2007 five trains
were operated from Anna Nagar railway station.
