Anna Arch Restoration Work In Full Swing!


The restoration work of Anna Arch is going on in full swing. The speed restoration work of Anna Arch began after a brief inspection by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. According to officials, restoration work would be completed within few months as the damaged steel rods would be replaced and strengthened. 

In a bid to strengthen the structure, a higher grade of cement concrete would be used. The Arch was earlier set for dismantled in order to make way for a flyover project. Now the alignment of the flyover linking Poonamallee High Road with Anna Nagar will be changed. Anna Arch, famous landmark of Anna Nagar will be soon restored to its past glory.

Training Programme On Roof Gardening


In urban and sub-urban areas the growing of fruits and vegetables is much restricted due to migration of peoples and expansion of residential areas. Roof gardening is a recent concept primarily intended for continuous supply of fresh fruits, vegetables through the year for family use. 

Apart from this, medicinal plants grown in roof garden can cure certain human diseases. Family members residing in urban and rural areas can easily establish and maintain the roof garden. A one day training programme on “Roof gardening” will be conducted by the TNAU Information and Training Centre on 18-10-2012 (Thursday) between 9.30 am and 4.30 pm.

Animal Welfare Talks In Educational Institutions


Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) , a statutory  body under the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Govt. of India, for the past 50 years has been striving to increase social consciousness towards the needs of animals and their role in the environment. 

Upholding the belief that education and awareness are essential to strengthen animal welfare movement and to build humane public attitude, on the occasion of its Golden Jubilee year, AWBI has initiated a novel Humane Education project. 

Starting in Chennai this month, the education team from Board will conduct animal welfare talks in educational institutions, corporates, govt. offices etc. This project will also be executed at these cities of Bangalore, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Dehradun.

This project promises to bring light and shine on these key aspects: bio-diversity, organic farming, factory farming, beauty without cruelty, humane customer choices, pet care, animal rescue, controlling growing stray dog population.
