Nethrodaya organized a State Level
Chess tournament at Radha Regent, Arumbakkam on 18th August 2012. The
moves of the players during the tournament were enthusiastically applauded and
appreciative by the audience, well wishers, sponsors and the media. Many of
these visually challenged players were from the remote villages and rural areas
of Tamil Nadu.
There were several dignitaries present during the inauguration
event as well as the valedictory function. Mr. Manoharan, the Deputy Director,
Commissonerate Differently abled Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, Mr.
Sathya, the renowned Music director, Mr. Sasikiran, the Grand Master, Mr.
Srinivasan, M.D of Radha Reagent, presided over the function. Mr.
Thirunavukarasu, visually challenged player from Madhavaram won the Trophy and
Mr. Suraj, a visually challenged player from Thiruvallur won the second prize.
The dignitaries applauded the winners and handed over the Trophy and Prizes to
the winners. Around 200 visually impaired chess players from various districts
of Tamil Nadu such as Tuticorin, Cuddalore and Palayamkotai etc participated in
the competition.
Mr. GovindaKrishnan, the Founder and Managing trustee of
Nethrodaya appealed to the sporting clubs functioning in Tamil Nadu to take up
such sports event in order to encourage visually impaired talented sportsmen
and women which will enhance their self esteem and self confidence and moral
courage.
