Chennai city has been growing rapidly and the
number of vehicles on the roads has also been increasing enormously.
Hence the
need for a new rail based rapid transport system has been felt and towards this
objective the Government of Tamil Nadu has decided to implement the Chennai
Metro Rail Project.
The underground Metro
station near Blue Star junction on 2nd Avenue Road, Anna Nagar is
going on a rapid speed.
With safety checks and
trial runs having been completed, tunnelling work at the Nehru Park site of
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is all set to begin. Tunnel boring machines
(TBMs) imported from China have been assembled and is ready for action.
The corridor -2 of
Chennai Metro Rail Project would have underground stations at Kilpauk Medical College, Aminjikarai, Shenoy Nagar, Anna
Nagar East, Anna Nagar 2nd Avenue and Tirumangalam.
