The new academic year is starting for degree and professional
colleges in the city. Prevention of ragging and eve-teasing is given
top-priority by Police.
To prevent ragging and eve-teasing in colleges and
other educational institutions special teams are formed in all cities and
districts to keep a vigil.
The teams will comprise of woman police constables.
Awareness will be created among students about the ill-effects of ragging.
They
will be sensitized that ragging is prohibited in the State and commission of
the offence would attract stringent punishment.
The students can lodge
complaints of ragging or eve-teasing on the official website of the Tamil Nadu
Police www.tnpolice.gov.in where a separate link has been provided for this
purpose without revealing their identity. Apart from the above link an
exclusive e-mail ID raggingcomplaints@gmail.com is created to lodge complaints
from anywhere.
This e-mail ID will be monitored at the Police Headquarters and
the concerned officials will be alerted for immediate action. Exclusive mobile
numbers for the purpose of receiving ragging and eve-teasing complaints will be
provided by Superintendents of Police and Commissioners of Police. Senior
police officers will be in touch with such committees for effective enforcement
of Anti-ragging laws.
As regards eve-teasing awareness will be created that the
offence is punishable under different sections of IPC and under Special Acts.
Police will also encourage educational institutions to install drop boxes in
campuses to facilitate students drop complaints or any other information that
