Metro Rail Alters Flow Of Canal Water Near Koyambedu

As the area near Koyambedu bus terminus along the southern part of Cooum River is one of the worst flood-prone areas in the city during the north-east monsoon, the Chennai Corporation and Metro Rail officials have launched an intensified drive to find a solution for the problem before next monsoon.

Flooding on Jawaharlal Nehru Salai, a crucial link has resulted in disruption of traffic during monsoon in the past.

The construction of the elevated corridor along from Koyambedu to Ashok Nagar has been completed. Adequate measures are taken so than canal water dose not hinder the metro rail construction work.

Even the flow of the canal is altered to prevent overflowing and water logging during the rainy season. Construction of Electrical substation for Chennai Metro Rail is in progress at Koyambedu.
