A majority of shops
and business establishments were closed on May 5 when the traders observe
Trader’s Day. A number of shops in and around Anna Nagar, Mogappair were
closed.
A rally was held in Chennai, to fight against FDI in retail sector and
insist upon promoting Swadeshi goods in the state.

Traders Federation T. Vellaiyan presided over the Chennai rally. The traders
discussed the Central government's move to introduce foreign direct investment
in retail trading. All the shops and business establishments was closed on 5th
May 2012 through Chennai city.
