The state government has announced plans to introduce mono rail across City to reduce traffic congestion and to increase the share of public transport in the urban transport network.

Recently the State government has decided to drop one of the four monorail lines that were supposed to be built in the city.

The proposed monorail corridors are from Vandalur to Velachery, via Tambaram East, from Poonamallee to Guindy Kathipara via Porur and another is from Poonamallee to Vadapalani via Valasarawakkam.
