Railway Budget Focused On Safety And Modernisation

The Union Railway Minister DineshTrivedi presenting the Railway Budget announced an increase in the hike of fares increased across all classes.Presenting the Railway Budget, Dinesh Trivedi announced an increase of Rs two paise per kilometer for suburban trains, five paise increase per kilometer for sleeper class, ten paise hike for AC chair car, for AC three-tier, it is15 paise per kilometer, AC two-tier an increase of twenty paise per kilometer and for AC first class, it is 30 paise per kilometer'.'Cost of platform tickets has been hiked from Rs three to Rs five', he announced. 

'My entire emphasis is on strengthening , safety , adding capacity, modernization and bringing down the operating ratio. 
 The Railway Minister further said that 825 km of gauge conversion has to be completed. 85 new line projects and 114 new line survey have to be carried out.

He stated that all meter gauge, narrow gauge sections to be made broad gauge, except heritage lines, by end of 12th Five Year Plan.The long-pending Velachery- St Thomas Mount MRTS link will be completed and commissioned in 2013, the Minister informed.Dinesh Trivedi further announced that 75 express trains, 21 passenger trains will be introduced this year.
