English Course For The Poor People In The City

The Rotary Club of Madras Silver Beach in Association with The Immaculate Centre for Spoken English, kick-started a permanent free English teaching course for women workers of the Balwadi at Villivakkam on Wednesday, 21st Mar, 2012. 

The project is targeted towards underprivileged people who have no means to spend on expensive fees to acquire working fluency in English which has become indispensable for securing decent employment.

The women workers of the Balwadi drawn mainly from backward areas expressed their keenness to acquire this special skill as it would go a far way not only in giving them confidence in performing duties and handling people better, but would also help them get better jobs and enhance their standards of living. 

The Rotary Club of Madras Silver Beach has undertaken many such community service projects, chief among them being the free school for hearing impaired children. 

The Immaculate is an institution providing specialised training in soft skills and their sister concern TI Abroad also facilitates study abroad and immigration services and has taken up training in English as a Corporate Social Responsibility activity. 

The course was launched by Rtn Vasumathi Marimuthu, District Director - Olympiad of Rotary International District 3230. President Rtn Rajan Padmakumar, Project Co-ordinator Rtn Debbie Westcott, Secretary Rtn B Chellam Devadoss and Special Officer of the Balwadi Ms Indira spoke on the occasion. he launch marked a new vista of opportunities for underprivileged women to empower themselves.
