The 24th ship visited ICWO on 12th February 2012. 50 youth from 13 countries like kingdom of Bahrain, Federative Republic Of Brazil, Canada, Arab Republic of Egypt,India,Japan ,New Zealand, Republic of Peru, Russia, Spain, Republic of Sri lanka, Republic of Turkey ,Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela participated in the programme .The RGNIYD (Rajiv Gandhi National Institute For Youth Development) is assigned by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports ,Government of India.
During the program, Mr.A.J.Hariharan the Founder Secretary of ICWO(Indian Community welfare Organization) said that these programmes will enlighten them on several issues pertaining to the specific state and countries. It will be a good learning for them to comparatively understand the global perspective of different issues and developmental issues of ICWO.
The exchange program will also create opportunity to directly interact with the community to understand the type of challenges they face and organization strategies to overcome those.Speaking on to the occasion Dr.T.Gopinath Training officer International Centre for excellence in youth development ,Rajiv Gandhi national Institute for Youth Development said that the24th ship for world youth Programme is implemented by the Government of Japan to create a platform for International brotherhood and to learn about Different Countries .
It is one of the important international youth exchange programme.The concept of this year is Living Together.The students enthusiastically participated in the training program and expressed their sincere thanks to all at ICWO and the community members.
On 31st January 2012, a chartered ship “Fuji Maru” left Yokohama (Japan) carrying 140 youths from Japan and 132 Youth from 12 other countries and would cruise around Singapore, India, Sri Lanka before returning to Tokyo on March 5th under the 24th Ship for World Youth Program”.
This Program was first introduced in 1967 to commemorate the centennial of the Meiji Restoration and was designated as the Japanese Youth Goodwill Program. In 1988 it was re-designated as “Ship for World Youth Program” and since then held every year.
The purpose of the “Ship for World Youth” program is to broaden the global view of the Japanese youths, to promote mutual understanding and friendship between Japanese and foreign youths as well as to cultivate the spirit of international cooperation.
