The gushing water which overflowed above the low-level bridge connecting Pillaiyar Koil Street in Thirumangalam and Koyambedu has severely damaged the bridge structure.
A major position of the road surface along the bridge has broken and fallen off.
Only a small narrow stretch remains which is used by pedestrians and cyclists. But crossing the bridge in such a damaged condition is risky.
This is causing severe inconvenience to the residents. The bridge is so low-lying that it always gets submerged every monsoon .
The next heavy rains will wash off the bridge completely if nothing concrete is done. People have to do an balancing act and cross over along the bridge putting their life and health at risk.
