Will Anna Nagar Get Plastic Roads!

The initiative to re-lay roads with plastic follows a Gazette notification by the Ministry of Environment and Forests in February 2011. 

Chennai Corporation sources all engineers and contractors will undergo training. Chennai corporation for a permanent solution for all road related problems. 

According to the Chennai Corporation sources, plastic roads will be stronger and long-lasting.

Following the directions of  Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, the scheme to lay plastic roads in Chennai was inaugurated by Mayor Saidai Duraisamy. The function was attended by Corporation Commissioner Davidar and senior officials. In a bid to prevent the roads in Chennai from frequently getting battered and bruised, the Chief Minister had ordered to lay plastic roads. 

One tonne of plastic will be mixed to nine tonnes of tar for laying the new roads. This will be high in quality and strong. 

'With over 160 tonnes of plastic waste collected everyday across the city, we can lay roads at many places,' the Mayor said. Corporation engineers should monitor them regularly. The Mayor has also assured that city would be free from waste deposited on the roads soon.
