The National Green Corps (NGC) wing of the Dept of Environment, Govt of Tamilnadu has organised a one day awareness seminar on "truth about Tigers" at Maharishi Vidya Mandir School, Chetput on 10th January from 9.30AM to 3.30PM for the 250 teacher coordinators of Chennai district. Mr.Ramnath Chandrasekar, environmentalist screened the telefilm directed by a famous film maker Sekhar Dathathri and explained its ecological importance of the national animal, the life cycle and the guidelines for saving tigers in the presence of Mr.S.Padmanaban Chennai North district coordinator.
Mr.G.Thangaraj Chennai East Coordinator demonstrated the activities to be carried out in schools by the teachers on environmental issues , vermi compost and tree plantations after distributing the annual grant sanctioned by the dept of environment to all schools. Mr.M.Ravikumar, Chennai Central coordinator explained the important days on environment to be celebrated, water and earth etc.
Dr.S.Thillai Govindarajan from Anna University and South district coordinator explained the rain water harvest and remote sensing applications in Tamilnadu. Based on the environmental activities and performances carried out by the teachers during 2011, it is announced that 3 best teachers and schools from each district will be selected for awards in the next meeting to be held at Chennai Snake park, Guindy.
