Metro Rail Project Picks Up Speed At Koyambedu

The  work on the Chennai Metro Rail was just gaining momentum in Koyambedu. Due to the construction work there will be traffic diversion. The traffic police have asked Metro Rail to go about in a phased manner to ease congestion.

Motorists driving along 100 Feet Road have a  trying experience as Metro Rail project is in progress. Full-scale work will begin once the rains stop.

By then, tunnel boring machines will be employed said a senior Metro Rail official. Metro Rail will consist of an elevated corridor and underground corridor on two stretches, namely from Chennai Central to St Thomas Mount via Koyambedu and from Washermenpet to Chennai Airport via Mount Road.

Most of the elevated viaduct is complete on the Koyambedu to Ashok Nagar stretch while pillars have been installed and work is in progress on the Ashok Nagar to Guindy. The elevated line from Koyambedu to St Thomas Mount is expected to be completed by 2013.

With every thing going smoothly, it seems that Metro Rail is on track to meet its 2013 deadline to run trains between Koyambedu and St Thomas Mount along an elevated line. The Construction works is progressing at a rapid pace. Once the elevated pillars are completed, the train track laying will start in Koyambedu from 2012 January onwards.
