Career Guidance Training For The Homeless Children In Chennai

A Career Guidance Training was  organized for the homeless children by ICWO and ActionAid India Chennai Region on 1st October 2011 at ICWO Head Office, Anna Nagar West, Chennai-600040.Mr.A.J.Hariharan during the inauguration said “that the drop out rates among the homeless children is high especially after their high school because of lack of knowledge and opportunity on their higher education. 

Hence there is an increase in the drop out rates when they are 15 and above. This career guidance training program will direct them in the right path and to make right choices which will in turn reduce the drop out rates, ensure higher education and choose a better career for their life. He also said 5 more similar career guidance training program will be organised before 30th May 2011. He wished the students for a bright future” 

The first session started with an introduction of Mr.Sam trainer for career guidance program followed by his initial interaction with them getting to know their educational status, their aims and their future plans. He motivated the students to continue their education and the means of reaching greater level. He also conducted various games which helped them to set their goals, motivated for higher education and how they would want to become after some years. Ms.Vanessa Program Officer Action Aid India Chennai Region said that the children should mainly focus on their career, how to grab the opportunities by being competent to others. 

She also motivated them to have specific goals and focus which will lead them to the place what they to like to achieve in the future. Ms.Lydia Program Manager ICWO concluded saying that there is a long way in creating new opportunity for the marginalized children.
