The inauguration of the NSS units I and II of Shri Krishnaswamy College for Women was held on 12.08.11 under the auspices of Dr.Raja Hussain, Director, University Students Advisory Bureau (USAB). The Principal, Dr.K.P.Malathi Shiri welcomed the gathering, and Dr. Girija, faculty, Department of Tamil and NSS coordinator of Unit 1 introduced the guests of honour. Dr. Raja Hussain addressed the students about the need and importance of service by the student community through NSS. Mrs. Chandrika, faculty, Department of Tamil and NSS coordinator of Unit 2 gave an informative presentation by tracing the origin and implementation of NSS among the students in India. Mr. Santhanam, a yoga expert regional television artiste gave a short and inspiring speech on the contribution of students in rendering service to society.
The program highlight was the heartrending talk by Ms. Kalki, a transgender, Founder, Sahodari Foundation, on “gender awareness”. The student volunteers of NSS sang a song to stress the role of service. A presentation on environment preservation compiled by Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, former President of India was made by Ms. Chandrika, student of I B.Com proposed the vote of thanks. Mr. K.B.Arun, Director, Krishnaswamy Educational Trust also participated in the proceedings.
