A free college books distribution programme was organized on 9th July 2011 by the Jaigopal Garodia Charitable Book Bank. Prof. Dr. D. Viswanathan, Former Vice Chancellor, Anna University was the Chief Guest who distributed free college books to students of several colleges in Computer Science, Engineering, Arts, Science and Commerce etc. He said, “Students should respect their parents and elders and must inculcate early raising habits and work hard in studies.
They should avoid using cell phones, cinemas which distract their attention.” Distributing free books to college students, he also said it is important for students to gain knowledge and skill, have a positive attitude to achieve success in life and become employable. Teachers and parents play a pivotal role in moulding children as good citizens. Prof. Viswanathan said that this is not a Book Bank but a ‘Knowledge Bank’.
Trustee of Jaigopal Garodia Vivekananda Vidyalaya Trust, Ashok Kedia welcomed the gathering and said the book bank was established in 2000 and nearly 50,000 students from various colleges have benefited so far. The Book Bank’s Chief Co-ordinator K.S. Kesavan said that the Jaigopal Garodia Charitable Book Bank is a brain child of Jaigopal Garodia and was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Education Minister in the year 2000.
He said the book bank grew by leaps and bounds and has seen a tremendous growth in the last 12 years. G. Vijayakumar, Principal narrated about the various welfare activities of the Trust. Many beneficiaries of the book bank were now well placed in leading companies. Also in the past a few of the beneficiaries have got Anna University Gold Medals.
